After so much time of silence on the blog, we thought it would be a good idea to start keeping everyone updated on how Noah is doing.
Noah has had a fantastic few years! God has blessed him with health and strength and the ability to be able to fight off illness at home with no hospital stays!
Noah continues to go for regular appointments to monitor his bladder and kidney function.
This past summer, after doing some blood test, the doctor discovered that Noah's kidney function has changed drastically.
Noah was born with only one working kidney and it has never worked at 100%. After this particular appointment, it was determined that Noah's kidney function is now at 24%. This now places Noah in Stage 4 Kidney Failure and he is now considered a patient with Chronic Kidney Disease.
This came as a complete shock to us and it is still hard to believe.
Noah now needs to go for bloodwork and check ups every 6 weeks and with medication we have been able to maintain a 24% function.
However, 2 weeks ago Noah spiked a fever and had a chesty sounding cough so Rob took him to the ER thinking to get a chest xray done, have a prescription written up and then be on the way back home. This was not the case since the xray came back clear! Now to determine what was causing the fever...after more tests and a lot of waiting, Noah tested positive for Influenza A. As a result of this, Noah's kidney function took a drastic dip from 24% to 18%.
We are so thankful to report that with Noah on the mend from Influenza A, his kidney function has once again returned to 24%. This is something that we are ever so grateful for!
All of this has now caused the gears to be moving just a little bit more quickly to prepare for a kidney transplant. (This is something that they really start to look into with a 10-15% kidney function).
Noah has been getting his vaccinations up to date and increased (he is required to have the 'platinum package' now, poor guy!).
Paperwork is starting to be filled out for a referral to Toronto Sick Kids Hospital where a transplant would ultimately take place.
We don't know how long it will be before things need to happen and much more serious and in-depth conversations about a kidney transplant need to take place, but we do know that we have a Heavenly Father watching over us and we strive to entrust our daily worries to His care.

Awww tough news for sure. May the Lord grant you all patience, strength and peace as you lay your cares before Him. We will pray for your little man that the means will be there for him when he needs them. Thinking of you all as you go through yet another trial.
