Here is an email we sent out on Monday:
As I am sure most of you are aware, Noah has a port-a cath for easy IV access. We have been going to the hospital once a month to have it flushed, to keep the line open and make sure that it is still usable.
Back in November, we found out that the line could be flushed, but could not be used to draw blood. Which meant that if he needed to be hospitalized, Noah would still need to be poked for blood work.
When we went in last week for Noah's monthly flush, we found out that it could not even be flushed. Meaning that the port is now completely useless.
We can have the port rewired and keep it in, or we can have it removed. Because Noah has been so healthy (praise God!) and has not needed an IV for a year, his veins should now be larger and much more accessible should he need an IV.
Although the timing is really lousy, with Rob being out of town and myself being 39 weeks pregnant (really there never is a good time to send your child for surgery), we have made the desicion to have the port removed. The will be taking place tomorrow morning!
This way we know it is done before the baby is born and Noah will have time to bounce back to himself before then too. The surgery is 1 hour and day surgery, so once Noah has woken up and is doing well, I will be bringing him home.
Please pray that things will go as smooth as they should and that this baby will cooperate and not decide to come early!

Noah's surgery today could not have gone any smoother!
Noah and I were at the hospital for 7:00am. Although he was sound asleep and not too happy with being changed right away, he did not complain much, nor did he have time to ask for a drink or breakfast - a blessing b/c he was not allowed to have either!
Once at the hospital we kept busy watching to lights change colour and then playing with all of the toys in the paeds surgery waiting area. There was so much to do there he kept busy!
When we had to put a yellow gown on, Noah knew enough that he didn't want it on, yet still cooperated. When the surgeon came to talk to us and have me sign some more papers, Noah knew again that something was going on and came to me for a snuggle when she left.
He still did not cry or complain, even when he was taken to the surgery room. What a trooper!
Noah's surgery was 40min, done with him only being under with a mask - not requiring an IV and with local freezing on the site. When I was called back to join him he was already awake and smiled at me!
We were kept for about an hour and were back home by noon!
Noah was so happy to be leaving the hospital after all of this and he even got the popsicle he was convinced the surgeon was going to give him when it was all said and done!
I am sure Noah will be in pain over the next few days, but he's been great so far - eating well and taking his medicine fairly well too. We pray that his recovery will continue to be so smooth.
This boy makes it look so easy! and that is such a blessing. Life with Noah has certainly not always been easy, yet he is an example to all of us in how happy he is. It is hard not to smile around him. :)
God has blessed Noah (and us) with a healthy year. Each day he continues to get grow and get stronger and we give thanks for this.
