Sing Praises

'Praise our God, O peoples;
let the sound of his praise be heard;
he has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping.
For you, O God, have tested us;
you refined us like silver.
You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs.
You let men ride over our heads;
we went through fire and water,
but you brought us to a place of abundance.'
Psalm 66: 8-12

I was able to spend this week at home, listening to the sound of all three of my children playing together. What a sweet sound that is!

Noah has been home for 4 days and is thriving! He really enjoys being home, playing with his toys, playing with Danielle and Jordan and being in his own bed. I beleive he really needed to get out of the hospital and praise God that he has been doing so well here at home.
Danielle and Jordan really love having Noah at home too. They play with him constantly, argue about who gets to sit beside him at meal times, help out by getting things for him. The first night that Noah was home, Rob asked Jordan if he was happy to have Noah home and he said 'yes'. After thinking for a little while he told Rob that he hoped Noah would still be home when he woke up in the morning (apparently thinking that Noah would be going back to the hospital the next day).

Our first day home was strange: not having to rush around in the morning, get house work done, eat lunch and drop the kids off somewhere before heading to the hospital. Being home when Rob got home from work was such a treat! and nice for Rob to have us all here and not have to rush around to head to the hospital himself.
It has been wonderful to be at home and run my household - cleaning, eating a relaxed breakfast, doing laundry...all these things that are taken for granted but that I haven't been able to do well for the past 3 months.
God has been good!

Having Noah home again comes with work in taking care of him. We are now Noah's nurses and I tend to think like one now too!
Noah needs to have a minimum of 750mls (3 cups) of fluid in a day. This is no small task for a 20 month old and we need to keep an accurate record of how much fluid he gets, as well as how much urine and stool he puts out to make sure he does not become dehydrated.
We now also have to flush Noah's bladder with water in an effort to drain out the extra pockets that he has in his bladder that may not be emptying properly and to dilute any infected urine that may be in his bladder. This is an uncomfortable process and takes both Rob and I to do; not very pleasent at all. However, if this keeps Noah out of the hospital, and from getting another bladder infection, we will make it work.

We also have home care set up right now because Noah still has the picc line in. If we feel that Noah is getting dehydrated again, we can have them come in and give Noah some fluid through the IV to keep him from going back to the hospital. It is a great blessing to have this available to us and gives us an extra peace of mind.

These last 12 weeks have been very trying on us in so many ways. We have been tested over and over again and pray that we have come through this stronger and with a greater faith and trust in out Heavenly Father.
We cannot ignore how many other people have been affected during all of this: family, extended family, church family and friends. There may have been times that we felt very alone and yet we know that when we wept, you were weeping with us and now as we rejoice, you are also rejoicing with us. What a blessing it is to belong to the body of Christ!

  1. So utterly thrilled you are home altogether once again. I met you in the hospital when our daughter was there - my sister-in-law is a friend of yours. You had looked so burdened and my heart went out to you. I know what you are feeling - if only in a smaller way. May God richly bless you and your family and continue to give you strength.

  2. So glad to hear that things are going well at home! We sometimes take the everyday running of the household for granted. Enjoy the holidays with your family!

  3. Hoping and praying that you were able to spend Christmas altogether as a family at home. We pray that it is God's will for Noah to stay home for a good long while now.
