Today is officially called 'Thanksgiving Day'. A day in which we celebrate and give thanks to God for the many blessings that He has given to us. We typically gather together as a family to enjoy time together and most eat a large meal, symbolizing the many riches and blessings we have been given.
This year, Thanksgiving Day is a little but different for our family. We will not be gathering together for a large meal, nor spending much time together as an entire family. And yet, we have much to be thankful for, and to be sure, we will be giving thanks this day!
We had a wonderful and uplifting sermon yesterday on Habakkuk 3: 17-18 - Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food,though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.
There are times when life doesn't go our way, when we are disappointed, sad and confused. We get frustrated and angry and wish things would change. YET, we know, deep down, that we have a God who is in control, who is leading us and guiding us down this path for a specific reason. We can rejoice, always, in this knowledge and also in the knowledge that we are His covenant children. This should be our first and foremost reason for thanksgiving.
I quote our sermon in saying 'A joyful thanksgiving in one where the riches received in Christ are celebrated. Receiving interest in the bank of God's love.'
I pray that today, your hearts may be filled with joy and thanksgiving, for the many riches you have received in the name and love of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
