'Lord, you are the God who saves me; day and night I cry out to you. May my prayer come before you; turn your ear to my cry. I am overwhelmed with troubles...'
Psalm 88:1-3a
Already what I have written yesterday is being put to the test: ...and YET I will be joyful...
Noah has been doing really well. He's been eating a lot, smiling and talking, moving around and generally doing everything that he's supposed to. We were very optimistic and hoping that today when the surgeon came to take a loot at things, she would give us the ok and send us home.
This was most definitely not the case. Sadly, Noah's colon has pulled back and nearly 80% is no longer attached to the hole that was created. This is a major disappointment for all of us. For Noah, b/c he was doing so well, us as parents b/c we were hoping that we were on our way home and for the surgeon as well, as she was hoping to now have to do anything on Noah again for another 6 months.
Now, Noah will be back in surgery tomorrow.
The doctors are not sure which course they will take, as a proper examination cannot be done until Noah is back under anasthetic. The good news is that all 4 paediatric surgeons will be putting their heads together to determine which course of action will be most benficial.
The options that have been discussed with us are:
a) repairing the colon and reattching it to the hole
b) removing the lower section of colon (the piece currently attached to the hole), attaching the current stoma to the hole and creating a new stoma
c) removing the lower section of colon, restiching the anus and leaving it as is to attach everything later
d) it was also mentioned that it may be best for Noah to simply leave him with a colostomy as they are not sure how much bowel function Noah will have when it is all said and done anyway (there are a number of indicators that he will not have any)
We are very disheartened by this news and the knowledge that we need to go through all of this again, just when we thought we were well on the mend and heading back to 'normal life'.
We ask that you would pray for the surgeons, that the LORd may guide them in the decisions that they make and guide their hands as they operate; for Noah, that he may recover from this surgery quickly, w/ no pnuemonia and for us, as parents that we may be able to keep the faith and remain strong through this all.
'I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.'

Rob and Anne - we recognize this as a great disappointment. We hope that you will be strengthened by God's sure promises and we pray that the LORD will comfort you and be near unto you. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want, He makes me lie down in green pastures! May your comfort be firmly rooted in the knowledge that even Noah is not his own, but belongs body and soul to our faithful Saviour, Jesus Christ!
ReplyDeleteWe're thinking of you! May you continue to receive strength from Above and trust in His good plan. "He tends His flock like a shepherd: he gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young" (Is. 40:11).
