Noah is now 1 week old! And what a milestone this is for all of us!
It has been a whirlwind of a week for Rob and I, as well as for the kids. Life has forever changed for us, in so many ways, and it is a major adjustment. We are truly learning that the LORD’s mercies are new every morning. Each day generally starts out well and by the end of the day we may feel stressed, tired and overwhelmed by everything. Yet we know that come morning we will have a new perspective and renewed strength to carry on. ‘Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes in the morning.’ Psalm 30:5.
Noah is doing great and gaining strength each and every day. By Wednesday he was off of morphine, and as a result taken off of oxygen. He is now breathing on his own and looks so much better without that tube in his mouth. Because he is no longer on morphine he is much more alert and we have seen him awake a number of times. He is also crying and it is such a precious sound to listen to as it is a very weak cry.
The surgery has had positive results and Noah’s bowels can now empty (pee and poop) as they need to into the bags that are on his tummy. This takes a little bit to get used to seeing, but I a sure in time it will be normal for us, as it is what is normal for Noah. We’ll get used to emptying and changing the bags as needed that we won’t think twice about it.
After the surgery, Noah’s biggest obstacles were infection and kidney function. The doctors did an ultrasound and were not sure if both of Noah’s kidneys are functioning. Since it is possible to live with only one kidney, they were monitoring Noah’s output to check out well his one kidney (the left) was working. They are happy with what they see now – although they are not sure how well the right kidney is working, the left kidney is working well enough for both of them.
Since his bowels are functioning well, Noah is now on milk feeds! This afternoon he was taking 14mls by bottle! And we were there for this feeding, so Rob was able to hold him and give him his bottle. What a blessing this was! He is such a hungry little boy and he loves to suck; I am sure that in no time he will be taking full feedings from a bottle! Yesterday he was back up to his birth weight.
And...lest I forget...we are not able to hold and snuggle Noah! This makes our visit so much more special and makes things feel a little more right!
Each day Noah makes a little more progress and we praise our Heavenly Father for the blessings that He continues to pour forth. He has given us so much more than we ever asked for and we have so much to be thankful. God is great!

So many reasons to give thanks! What a beautiful little boy. So good to have him in your arms at last! Praying that God will give you the strength that you need to make it through each day, especially as you live torn between the needs of your children at home and in hospital.

Thankful to hear such positive news. What a blessing that even the doctors have seen Noah exceed the expectations they had for him. Here we see God's almighty hand at work, praise God! May the Lord continue to grant strength,comfort and joy to you and yours Anne & Rob!
